Sector and Community Engagement
A strong sector is a connected one. Mental Health Victoria brings members, partners, people with lived and living experience, and the wider community together — so that the people closest to the issues help shape how the sector responds to them.
Engagement is how we stay grounded in what's actually happening across Victoria. It keeps our policy and advocacy honest, surfaces what's working and what isn't, and builds the relationships the sector needs to move forward together.
MHV x Run The Tan 2026
On Sunday 26 April we were proud to join hundreds of Melburnians for Run the Tan, taking on the iconic 3.8km loop around the Royal Botanic Gardens in support of MHV's partner Amber's White Light a wonderful organisation doing vital work to support those affected by suicide loss.
But the run was just part of the story. Our marquee buzzed with energy throughout the day, and we were genuinely moved by the number of people who stopped by to have a real conversation about mental health. Whether you shared your own experiences, asked about MHV's work, or simply said hello - those moments of connection are exactly why events like this matter.
Run the Tan is more than a fun run. It's a gathering of people who believe that mental health belongs in the open - talked about, supported, and funded. When thousands of people come together around a shared cause, it sends a powerful message: that no one should navigate mental ill-health alone.
For MHV, being part of the day reflects our commitment not just to advocacy and policy, but to showing up for the communities we represent.
A huge congratulations to the Run the Tan team for a wonderful event and thank you to everyone who donated. We'll be back next year. And we'd love you to join us
State of The Sector Forum
On Thursday the 27th of November MHV hosted the State of The Sector Forum, supported by the release of our Key Insights report. We were privileged to be joined by Assocates, partners, people with lived and living experience, and colleagues from across government and the community.
The report set out where the sector stands today, and the conversation that followed was candid, considered, and willing to sit with the hard questions.
We sincerely thank everyone who joined us and contributed to such a timely and important conversation. The warmth between old friends and colleagues, and the welcoming of new faces and connections, was spirit-lifting; the sense of purpose and unity palpable. Our thanks extend also to Tom Boyd, Leanne Grammelsberger, Katie Kendall, Astha Tomar, and Chris Gambian, who so generously and authentically engaged with the content and each other to create such a useful dialogue. There's been no shortage of people reflecting to us how refreshing it was to hear truths told so compassionately, and to see such open, honest, and respectful exchanges and differences of opinion.
